    • Claritin tablets are a commonly used oral medication that belongs to an advanced class of medications known as non-drowsy antihistamines (NDAs), or second-generation antihistamines. These tablets contain the active ingredient loratadine, a chemical compound characterized by its strong and sustained effect in relieving a variety of allergy symptoms without causing drowsiness or significantly interfering with the ability to concentrate and perform normal daily activities. Claritin is a preferred and widely used option for providing relief from the bothersome symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergies, such as hay fever (seasonal allergic rhinitis), chronic allergic rhinitis, chronic idiopathic urticaria, and other allergic skin reactions.

The active ingredient in Claritin tablets

Claritin tablets contain the following active ingredient, which is the basis of its therapeutic effect in combating allergy symptoms:

Loratadine: A tricyclic antihistamine belonging to the second generation of these medications. Loratadine works by selectively blocking the action of histamine, a chemical released by the body in response to allergens (such as pollen, dust mites, and animal dander). Histamine binds to H1 receptors in the body, triggering allergy symptoms such as a runny nose, sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, and hives. Loratadine blocks these receptors, thereby preventing histamine from causing these symptoms or significantly reducing their severity. Loratadine's unique ability to cross the blood-brain barrier makes it less likely to cause drowsiness than first-generation antihistamines. Its long-acting effect allows for a single dose per day to provide continuous relief for approximately 24 hours.

      Available Strengths

Claritin tablets are typically available in one standard strength of the active ingredient loratadine for ease of use and to ensure the appropriate therapeutic dose for most conditions:

Loratadine 10 mg: This is the usual dose for adults and children over 6 years of age and weighing more than 30 kg.

One tablet (10 mg) is usually taken orally once daily. Claritin can be taken with or without food, and its absorption is not significantly affected by food. It is important to follow the package instructions or the instructions of your doctor or pharmacist carefully regarding the dosage and timing of taking the medication. It is not recommended to exceed the recommended dose.

Indications for Use of Claritin Tablets

Claritin tablets are used effectively to relieve the symptoms associated with a variety of allergic conditions, helping individuals regain their normal quality of life and relieve the discomfort caused by these symptoms, including:

Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever): Characterized by symptoms such as a runny nose, frequent sneezing, itchy nose and throat, watery eyes, and itchy eyes. This type of allergy typically occurs during certain times of the year as a result of exposure to pollen from trees, grasses, and flowers.

Perennial allergic rhinitis (another type of nasal allergy): Occurs year-round as a result of exposure to allergens found in the indoor environment such as dust mites, pet dander, and mold spores. Symptoms include chronic runny nose, stuffy nose, sneezing, and itchy nose and throat.

Chronic idiopathic urticaria (HIU): An itchy skin rash of red or white bumps (hives) that lasts for six weeks or more without a clear cause. Claritin helps relieve the itching and rash associated with this condition.

Other itchy skin symptoms caused by allergies: Claritin can help relieve itching caused by other allergic reactions, such as insect bites or allergies to certain substances.
