One-Alpha is used to treat bone changes caused by kidney failure, including osteodystrophy, as well as changes in the parathyroid glands and low blood calcium levels in newborns, a condition known as hypocalcemia. This deficiency can lead to softening and deformity of the bones, such as rickets or osteomalacia. Alfacalcidol, a vitamin D analogue, is used to treat hypocalcemia and secondary hyperparathyroidism, which affects the bones in patients with chronic kidney failure.
One-Alpha is also used to treat some types of rickets and osteomalacia.
