It is normally synthesised in the liver, brain, and kidneys in sufficient quantities to meet human requirements. It is an antioxidant. It protects neurons from damage caused by super oxide radicals. Indications for L-carnitine 1.As antioxidant 2.Carnitine deficiency Typical Dosage for L-carnitine Oral Adult: 100 - 200 mg/kg daily in 2 to 4 divided doses. Children: 50 to 100 mg/kg daily in 2 to 4 divided doses Parenteral (IV) Adult: 50 to 100 mg/kg daily is given in 3 to 4 divided doses by slow intravenous injection over 2 to 3 minutes.
