Medicine Description
About Streptomycin Aminoglycoside Antibiotic, Antitubercular Agent. Mechanism of Action of Streptomycin Streptomycin exerts it`s bactericidal action against gram- negative organisms & some of gram positive organisms by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. The process involves 1. Penetration of bacterial cell membrane & binding directly to the 30 S subunit of bacterial ribosome, 2. misleading of m-RNA codon by bacterial ribosome, 3. Formation of peptide chains with wrong amino acid sequence which gets incorporated into bacterial cell membrane and alters it`s permeability, 4. Bacterial cell lysis. Indications for Streptomycin 1.Tuberculosis 2.Brucellosis 3.Tularemia 4.Plague 5.Enterococcal endocarditis Interactions for Streptomycin Aminoglycosides, Amphotericin B, Bacitracin, Cisplatin, Cephalothin, Vancomycin, Methoxyflurane Ethacrynic Acid, Frusemide, Bumetanide & Mannitol: Increased ototoxic, neurotoxic or nephrotoxic affects.
