Marivanil is an anticoagulant that is mainly used to prevent blood clots from forming or to prevent existing clots from getting bigger. This medication is prescribed in specific medical conditions that require reducing the risk of blockage of blood vessels, whether in the arteries or veins. The medication treats deep vein thrombosis, known as deep vein thrombosis, and treats or prevents pulmonary embolism, which is a serious condition that occurs as a result of a blood clot moving to the pulmonary artery.
Marivanil is used to prevent strokes or heart attacks in people who may be at risk of these conditions due to heart rhythm disturbances such as atrial fibrillation or as a result of heart valve disease.
