Phytonadione injections are used to prevent and treat bleeding caused by the use of anticoagulants and in cases of severe bleeding or as a preventive measure if clotting levels are very low due to excessive use of anticoagulant medications such as warfarin. The drug is routinely given to newborns to prevent bleeding resulting from a natural deficiency in vitamin K levels at birth.
Phytonadione is used to treat vitamin deficiency in the body that may occur due to malnutrition or intestinal disorders that affect the absorption of the vitamin or after a surgical procedure that affects the digestive system. Phytonadione is sometimes used to treat bleeding problems in people with chronic liver disease.
