Topiramate is used to control partial or tonic-clonic seizures, either alone or with other medications. Migraine prevention is prescribed to reduce the frequency of migraine attacks and reduce their severity. It is used as part of a treatment plan to relieve symptoms of bipolar disorder. It is sometimes added to obesity treatment regimens, especially in patients who suffer from health problems associated with obesity.
Topiramate is used in some treatment programs to support control of alcohol or drug addiction. The drug should only be used under medical supervision due to the possibility of side effects or interactions with other medications that the patient may be taking.
