Promacid is commonly used to treat schizophrenia, where it helps reduce the positive symptoms associated with the disease, such as auditory and visual hallucinations, delusions, and irrational thinking. Promacid may also be prescribed to treat symptoms of mood disorders, such as the mania found in bipolar disorder, by reducing abnormal activity and irritability and excessive nervousness. This medication is sometimes used to control aggressive behavior and severe irritability when these behaviors are associated with certain medical or psychiatric conditions.
Promacid is sometimes used to control severe nausea and vomiting resulting from certain conditions, such as chemotherapy, due to its anti-nausea and anti-emetic effects.
