About Mosapride A selective 5HT4 agonist, A gastroprokinetic agent. Mechanism of Action of Mosapride Mosapride is a Prokinetic drug. It is a 5 HT4 receptor agonist as well as 5HT3 receptor antagonist in the myenteric plexus. Enterochromaffin cells in the gastrointestinal mucosa produces and releases serotonin in response to stimuli (chemical or mechanical stimulation).Serotonin will enhances peristaltic movement by stimulating sensory neurons in the myenteric plexus. Stimulation of 5HT4 receptors will increase the release of Acetylcholine. The metabolite of Mosapride produces 5HT3 receptor antagonism and suppresses the inhibitory transmission in myenteric plexus. These all results in increased oesophageal peristaltic activity, lower oesophageal sphincter tone and enhances intestinal propulsive activity.
