About Ethosuximide Imide derivative, A succinimide anticonvulsant(mainly in absence seizures). Mechanism of Action of Ethosuximide Ethosuximide reduces low threshold T current in Ca2+ channel in thalamic neurons. Thalamus is responsible for the production of absence seizure. Ethosuximide produces its action by inhibiting T type calcium channel. Indications for Ethosuximide Absence seizure (Petit mal epilepsy) Breast Feeding Related Information Contraindicated Children Related Information Use with caution Below 3years: Contraindicated Typical Dosage for Ethosuximide Adult: 500mg/day in 2 divided doses. Dose can be increased by 250mg every 4 - 7 days up to 1.5g/day. Children above 6 years of age: same as adult dose Children under 6 years of age: 250 mg /day
