Medicine Description
About Pancuronium Nicotinic antagonist,Long acting Nondepolarizing Neuromuscular Blocker, Skeletal Muscle Relaxant. Mechanism of Action of Pancuronium This bis-quaternary ammonium steroid is a non-depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent that competes with acetylcholine for cholino- ceptive sites at the postjunctional membrane and thereby blocks competitively the transmitter action of acetylcholine resulting in muscle paralysis. It can also release histamine in the body. General anaesthesia: It is often administered during the induction of anaesthesia to relax muscles of the jaw, neck and airway and thereby facilitate laryngoscopy and endotracheal intubation. Following induction, continued muscle relaxation is required for many procedures to aid surgical exposure and to provide additional insurance of immobility.
