Diflucan is used to treat vaginal yeast infections that cause itching and vaginal discharge. It is also used to treat fungal infections of the mouth and throat, often referred to as oral thrush. It may be prescribed for skin infections or for more severe systemic candidiasis, which can affect other organs such as the lungs or liver.
Diflucan is an effective option for preventing fungal infections in immunocompromised patients, such as those with HIV (AIDS) or those undergoing immunosuppressive chemotherapy for cancer.
