    Medicine Description

    About Piroxicam NSAID,Oxicam derivative, Analgesic,antiinflammatory. Mechanism of Action of Piroxicam Drug inhibits the biosynthesis and release of prostaglandins by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzyme in a reversible manner. In this way it reduces the PG (Prostaglandin) concentration in the synovial fluid. It also reduces platelet aggregation (prolong bleeding time), production of IgM rheumatoid factor, chemotaxis of leukocytes and ratio of T-helper to T- suppressor lymphocytes. Indications for Piroxicam 1. Rheumatoid arthritis 2. Osteoarthritis 3. Ankylosing spondylitis 4. Acute musculo-skeletal disorders 5. Acute gout 6. Post-operative & post-traumatic pain 7. Primary dysmenorrhea Interactions for Piroxicam Anticoagulants: May prolong prothrombin time. Beta-Blockers: Antihypertensive effect may be impaired. Cyclosporine: Nephrotoxicity of both agents may be increased. Lithium: Serum lithium levels may be increased. Hydantoins: Serum hydantoin levels increase
