Fraxiparine is used to prevent blood clots in patients who are at high risk of developing them, such as people undergoing major surgery, especially operations that affect areas such as the hips or knees. It is also used to treat existing blood clots such as deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism to stop the problem from getting worse and prevent blockage of vital vessels.
Fraxiparine may be prescribed in some special cases that require the use of carefully calibrated anticoagulants, such as pregnant women who suffer from disorders that are susceptible to causing blood clots or patients with medical conditions such as chronic atrial fibrillation that increase the likelihood of clot formation.
